WHO WE ARE
Swiss MD-PhD Association (SMPA) is a non-profit organization of Swiss physician-scientists.
By building an active community of past, present and future MD-PhD students, we aim to:
provide support to physician-scientists in various stages of their career
facilitate the interaction between the clinical and preclinical science
encourage scientific exchange
promote international collaboration between MD-PhD programs

Mark June 21st-22nd 2024 in your calendar for our annual conference, focusing this year on neurosciences. Join us for exciting talks and workshops, stimulating discussions and unique networking opportunities at the beautiful Bad Bubendorf Hotel in Basel-Country.
The conference is open to all MD-PhDs, MDs and medical students interested in science.
LOCAL MEETINGS HAPPENING SOON
Local meetings are informal networking events that take place every few months in Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne and Zurich.
These meetings are open to everyone interested - you do not need to be a member to join. Use this great opportunity to meet your colleagues at various stages of their scientific career, and to learn more about the SMPA and what it can do for you!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM FAQS:Â IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE MY MD-PHD TIME COUNT TOWARDS MYÂ RESIDENCY TRAINING IN SWITZERLAND?
This is one of the most frequent questions we receive. It actually depends on the rules specific to your specialty. For most specialties, you can have 1 year of your MD-PhD research count towards your education. Your research field does not always need to correspond to your specialty.
To give you an overview, we complied an unofficial list of the accredited time per specialty, which you can find by clicking on the button below. Keep in mind that although the list will be updated regularly, it mainly serves as an orientation as we cannot guarantee that it will always correspond to the most recent regulations. The official regulations can be found on the SIWF website.
